Frequently Asked Questions

BE Buddy® does not “stop” big feelings. It helps your child practice the breathing pattern their body can return to over time.

The goal is not to wait for a hard moment and hope breathing works. The goal is to practice during calm moments first, so low + slow breathing becomes familiar before your child needs it most.

Start when your child is already calm — after school, during quiet time, before bed, or during a calm routine.

The Quick Start Guide will walk you through simple first steps, but the main idea is this: introduce BE Buddy® when your child’s nervous system is mostly okay, not in the middle of a meltdown

Start with 1–2 minutes a day.

Even 3–5 slow breaths can be enough in the beginning. The goal is not a long session or perfect breathing. The goal is small, repeatable practice that helps calm feel familiar in the body.

That is okay. Keep it short and simple.

Let your child hold BE Buddy®, touch it, place it nearby, or try just one breath. Short practices that feel easy are better than longer practices that feel forced.

Think practice, not pressure.

That is okay. Start by modeling it yourself.

Place BE Buddy® on your belly, take a few low + slow breaths, and let your child see what it looks like to pause, soften, and come back to calm. Children often learn regulation by watching the adults around them first.

Over time, your child may become curious and want to try it too. The goal is not to force the practice — it is to make low + slow breathing feel familiar, safe, and easy to repeat.

Meet the Creator

Hi, I’m Stephanie Esser — a certified breathing coach, former elementary teacher, mother of four, and inventor of BE Buddy®.

I created BE Buddy® because I know what it feels like to grow up without the tools to calm your body. After years of studying education, yoga, trauma-informed practices, and functional breathing, I became passionate about helping kids learn low + slow breathing early in life.

BE Buddy® turns that practice into something children can see, feel, and repeat — so calm becomes a skill their body remembers.

A patented breathing tool. A playful daily practice. A lifelong regulation skill.

Why Families Choose
BE Buddy®

Most calming tools fall into one of two categories. They feel comforting, but they do not teach a lasting skill. Or they teach a skill, but kids do not want to use them.

BE Buddy® brings both together.

It gives children the sensory comfort they naturally want — soft texture, gentle weight, playful characters, and feathers that make breath visible — while helping them practice the low + slow breathing pattern their body needs. So instead of another tool that gets forgotten in a drawer, BE Buddy® becomes part of a simple daily routine your child can see, feel, and repeat.

Sensory Comfort
Creates Buy-In

Kids are more likely to practice when the tool feels good to hold, hug, smell, see, and use.

Visible Breath Feedback
Builds Understanding

Breathing is invisible. BE Buddy® helps kids see and feel what low + slow breathing means by watching the Buddy rise and fall or gently moving the feathers with their exhale.

Daily Repetition Builds
the Pathway

Calm becomes easier to access when the body has practiced it. A few minutes a day helps build the muscle memory for low + slow breathing before big feelings take over.

No Screens. No Charging.
No Subscription.

Just a simple, reusable tool your child can return to again and again — at bedtime, after school, during quiet time, or in a calm corner.

BE Buddy® is not a one-time calm-down trick.

It is a one-time purchase that helps build a lifelong regulation habit — so your child can practice calm before they need it.

Loved by Families,
Teachers & Calm Corners

Families use BE Buddy® at bedtime, in calm corners, during school quiet time, and as a daily breathing practice.

Build the Calm Pattern Before the Next
Big-Feeling Moment

BE Buddy® helps families move from reactive calming to proactive regulation.

Instead of waiting until your child is already overwhelmed, you begin with small daily reps during calm moments:

✓ After school ✓ Before homework ✓ At bedtime ✓ In a calm corner ✓ During quiet time ✓ Before a hard transition

Those tiny repetitions matter. Because the goal is not one perfect breath in the middle of a meltdown.

The goal is a practiced pattern your child’s body can return to again and again.

Bedtime Resistance

Create a predictable low + slow breathing ritual that helps the body settle.

Big-Feeling Spirals

The STOP & B.O.P.®
Daily Calm Practice

A simple 2-minute breathing ritual kids can practice every day — before they need it.

STOP: Set Up the Body

S — Soften the shoulders

Relax the upper body so the breath can move lower.

T — Tummy soft

Let the belly relax so the diaphragm can move.

O — Open and relax the jaw

Release tension and return to gentle nasal breathing.

P — Posture tall, but relaxed

Create space for the breath to move low and slow.

B.O.P.® — Breathe On Purpose

Place BE Buddy® on the belly.
Breathe in gently and watch Buddy rise.
Exhale slowly and watch Buddy fall.
Repeat for 5–10 breaths.

This daily practice teaches the body:

Low breath + slow breath = safe body.

STOP & B.O.P.® turns calm into a practiced habit — so your child’s body learns “safe” on repeat.
